The Economic and Statistical Observatory of Sub-Saharan Africa (AFRISTAT) carried out numerous statistical activities during the first half of 2025, covering the areas of:
(i) statistical coordination and resource mobilization, (ii) development and strengthening of partnerships, (iii) training and (iv) technical assistance.
Regarding resource mobilization, the Director General conducted missions to seven Member States where he was received by the various Ministers responsible for statistics with whom the issue of the payment of contributions to the AFRISTAT Fund 2016-2025 was the main point of discussion. The collection of technical assistance needs during the year 2025 was also one of the main objectives pursued during these meetings. During the same period, the 49th meeting of the AFRISTAT Steering Committee was held, which mainly assessed the results achieved by the institution in 2024, indicated AFRISTAT’s contribution to the implementation of the statistical harmonization program in Africa, finalized the recruitment process of the Deputy Director General of the Observatory for the period 2026-2029 and noted the topics to be submitted to the next session of the Council of Ministers of the organization. It is noted that the mid-term evaluation of AFRISTAT’s Strategic Work Program 2022-2025 was also finalized.
